Our first research mixer delved into the dynamic intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media, exploring key themes such as group sentiment analysis, text analytics tools, and emotion detection across various media formats. Held on November 7th at the Campus Club Conference Room A, the event fostered engaging conversations and networking opportunities among attendees.

The evening featured three distinguished speakers, each presenting their cutting-edge research and insights into the intricate relationship between AI and social media. 

The event not only showcased the breadth of research within the AI and social media domain but also laid the groundwork for future discussions. Attendees eagerly participated in conversations regarding group sentiment analysis, text analysis tools, and emotion detection, setting the stage for follow-up meetings focusing on these sub-topics.

Moving forward, our series will continue to explore these themes in greater depth, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation at the intersection of AI and social media.

WiADS 2024 Conference: A Day of Inspiration and Connection for Women in Data Science

On November 4th, 2024, the University of Minnesota hosted the highly anticipated Women in AI and Data Science (WiADS) Conference, organized in partnership with MinneAnalytics at the McNamara Alumni Center. This sold-out event brought together over 1,000 registrants, including over 550 in-person attendees, and showcased the work of women, non-binary, and gender-diverse voices in data science.
